Internationally recognized soprano Angela Dean-Baham is a much sought-after performer and has been recognized for her "exuberant portrayal" and her "distinctive" "silvery soprano" voice. A resident of the San Francisco Bay area, she has enjoyed an extensive career reaching audiences around the globe, most recently in France and Italy. Ms. Dean-Baham received her Bachelor of Arts in Music from Spelman College and continued her studies at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, where she obtained a Master of Music in Voice.
A versatile artist whose talent and experience include a variety of musical genre including opera, operetta, musical theatre, spirituals and jazz, Ms. Dean-Baham's opera and theatre roles include Micaela (Carmen), Anne Truelove (The Rake's Progress), Serena (Porgy and Bess), Erste Dame (Die Zauberflôte) and Sarah (Ragtime). With a penchant for new music, Ms. Dean Baham has performed numerous contemporary opera roles. She starred as Betty Shabazz in the West Coast Premiere of Anthony Davis' The Life and Times of Malcolm X at Oakland Opera and was seen as Queen Tye in the West Coast Premier of Akhnaten by Philip Glass recognized by the San Francisco Chronicle as one of the Ten Best Performances of 2004.

Ms. Dean-Baham was greatly honored to perform at Oakland Mayor Jerry Brown’s 2000 Inaugural Festivities. In addition, she has been a featured artist at the City of Oakland’s ItalianFesta and at the City of Walnut Creek's Opera in the Park. She is a member of the internationally recognized Andrea Fulton Chorale which performs the annual Bracebridge Dinner at the Ahwanee Hotel in Yosemite National Park and has been a featured performer at the Quissisana Resorts in Maine. Maestro Eric Kujawsky, former Music Director of the Redwood Symphony Orchestra, calls Ms. Dean-Baham’s performance as Serena in Porgy and Bess “…deeply moving and impeccably sung” and recalls that “Her ‘My Man’s Gone Now’ brought the house down.”
Ms. Dean Baham is the author of The Unsung Diva, an original solo play with music based on the life of 19th century Black opera singer Sissieretta Jones (1869-1933). The Unsung Diva was featured at the 16th Annual Los Angeles Women's Theatre Festival, the San Francisco Theatre Festival, and at the 15th Annual Afro Solo Festival in San Francisco. The Unsung Diva will be performed at the 2009 National Black Theatre Festival in North Carolina in August.
In addition to performing, Ms. Dean-Baham is a private voice instructor. She has been a guest lecturer at several colleges and universities and recently received the 2009 Heritage Keeper Award by the Friends of Negro Spirituals music society for her contributions toward educating the community and preserving the legacy of the spiritual.
